About Me

I am currently working in an advertising firm in Sydney, Australia. Web design and programming has been my hobby since I was in high school, thus the reason of me working on this project. I have worked on RSS News as my own project since October 2007. Taking my idea from popurls.com (can’t thank enough to the author, Thomas Marban), the whole site is designed from the scratch. No code is stolen, no graphics are copied, no images are duplicated. It is all done from ground zero.

You must be asking: Why do you still replicate popurls.com as your site? I am trying to take a different approach where RSS News is more targeted towards Australian communities. Unlike popurls.com, theweblist.net, or originalsignal.com, RSS News has been segmented into different categories so it gives you the feel of an RSS directory, but the look of a major newspaper sites like TheAge.com.au, SMH.com.au, News.com.au, etc. Another different perpective is that RSS News does not provide users the facilities to customise the news content, since most of the news content has been taken directly from famous news aggregators like Digg, Del.icio.us, and Reddit. This site provides you with the most up-to-date news picked up and voted by people around the world like you. RSS News has its own editor to decide which RSS to present on the front page and each category page.

The site pulls out fresh news feeds from major news aggregators and displays them when you access the page. Essentially, RSS News automatically updates itself with new contents. The core technology is accomplished by utilising RSS feed, where new headlines and article summaries are transmitted automatically whenever they are readily available from the sources.

If you come across any news feed that you think RSS News should include, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will review your request accordingly.

Apart from popurls.com, I would like to thank the following people:

  • Simplepie.org, for creating such a beautiful piece of PHP class;
  • Mootools.net, for inventing this powerful javascript framework;
  • Mozilla.org, for its fantastic browser; and
  • Other programmers and authors for their free scripts: love your work and idea!

Feel free to leave any idea, comment, and suggestion. Happy news feeding! :)
